Excel Fig Tree

Excel fig is a relatively modern cultivar, introduced in 1975 by Bill Storey, a colleague of renowned fig breeder Ira Condit. It is a hybrid derived from the ‘Kadota’ fig, aiming to improve upon its parent by enhancing adaptability and productivity. The result is a vigorous yet compact tree that’s easy to manage and ideal for both backyard gardens and containers.

This variety produces medium-sized, golden-yellow figs with amber flesh and a rich, honey-like flavour. Excel figs are delicious fresh off the tree, but also perfect for drying and preserving. They’re self-fertile, reliable producers, and thrive in warm climates like Perth, fruiting in late summer.

With its excellent flavour, resilience, and ease of care, the Excel fig is a standout choice for gardeners seeking a dependable and tasty fig variety.
